Barron's is missing out on an important market. They haven't updated this since 2013!!! This WAS a reliable book for the English, Reading and Writing sections of the exam, but now it's so outdated, it's fairly worthless.
Barron's review books are my favorite for ACT / SAT prep. This English prep book is a great resource for helping the student who struggles with just this portion of the ACT, or for the student who needs more than the small section included in the general review text. I absolutely recommend this book for anyone wanting to raise their writing score; there are some really great suggestions for improving your ACT essay. This book does not contain full ACT practice exams, but it has plenty of exercises in reading, general English, and writing.

great guide, packed full of practice tests which I think is the most important thing
I run a tutoring business and have supplied my tutors with various books through the years to help students prepare for the ACT. This books is easy to use and the material covers the English, Reading, and Writing portions of the ACT accurately. My students have seen great improvement using this book.
I am a late in life ACT taker. So, unlike a kid straight out of high school I've had some time to really and truly forget all that useless stuff I learned. These workbooks are seriously saving me, not only from humiliating myself, but also from having to retake the ACT. It's like a nice mini refresher course in your hands. I have truly appreciated that these were available... Having them, being able to sit down and work through them is honestly taking away a lot of the test anxiety and boosting my confidence.So, if you're right out of high school or like me a late bloomer I highly recommend these!Happy Studying.

The combination of the Princeton Review guide and Barron's are all a student needs for test prep. If parents are willing to invest a little time with their children, this is better than paying big $'s for classes. These can easily be broken down into 15 minute daily practice sessions.
