I grew up with foster sisters and seem to be drawn to books about orphans, foster care, and adoption, so it was not surprising that I found this book engaging. I read the whole book in one sitting on a transatlantic flight, foregoing sleep and in- flight movies. I was, however, left wondering about the ethical issues involved in this type of writing. The author has the obligation to change details to protect the privacy of the child and others involved with him. So, how much of the story actually happened? Or if the story was not drastically altered, will the child later discover his foster mother told the secrets of his traumatic childhood? Did the social workers and teachers know the identity of the foster mother who also appears to be a prolific writer? Nonetheless, I found it to be an inspiring and engaging story of consistency, persistence, and care in spite of overwhelming odds.
Cathy Glass did it again in writing another winner. She pulls you in and hooks you on the first page, I always feel like I'm a part of the story. Cathy makes you feel all the emotions that she feels, I laugh, cry, get angry at the way these children are abused, neglected and no child deserves that.Thank God for carers like Cathy that makes a child's life better really gives her all for them. Yes, I would recommend this book.
(I only give 5 stars for the best of the best- IMHO)This is another great, heartbreaking story by Cathy Glass. The families she encounters amaze me in the abuse and neglect they impart on their children. Thank God for Social workers, foster carers, adoptive parents and others who go that extra mile (or more) to try to rescue these children and offer them a chance to have a "normal" life.
Cathy Glass has done an amazing job on yet another great book. Each time I finish one of her books I start another . Once I begin I can't stop reading until the end , reading for 24+ hours. on the last page it describes these books an Cathy by saying - Be amazed , Be moved , Be Inspired .
I have read 14 Cathy Glass books & they have all taken me on a journey - I enjoy reading the follow up's on Cathy's web site. I am sure most foster carers are in it with the best of intentions however Cathy you are special! The way you care for these children & your own Cathy is a credit to you. I trust you will take some `Cathy time' when adult company comes along. The world is a better place for your being. Please keep writing the books.
Cathy Glass writes with such sincerity! Love her ability to bring you directly into the stories she tells. This one was no different!
This story had me hooked and probably one of the best Cathy Glass novels I've read. The book was intriguing and heartbreaking and long after i finished reading this it was still on my mind. Highly recommend
Mummy Told Me Not to Tell is a true story about a child and his siblings in foster care. It's hard to imagine that parents can be so unstable and continue to raise their children in such a toxic environment for so long before it's virtually too late. The reality of such a childhood was disturbing to read, but inspiring as Cathy, the foster carer, worked with the child and brought about healing and positive change. Every foster child should have such a dynamic foster parent!
