The Lady's Love Ruined by Lies by Charlotte Darcy is part of a short series of Regency fairy tales. It was fun. This one is based in Cinderella. Camille Marton has chosen Thomas Chamberlain, the Duke of Stonebridge for her daughter, Lucy. To be clear, NOT her stepdaughter, Emma. Of course, the Duke has other ideas once her has laid eyes on the lovely Emma. When her is invited to tea, Emma is asked to make herself scarce. Unfortunately she runs into him on the drive as he is leaving. Her brother, James, takes her to Stonebridge Hall for tea at the Duke's behest. Camille discovers this chance meeting and is enraged. The next morning Emma finds herself being hauled away to a distant aunt in Scotland, her stepmother sharing plans to destroy her reputation so the Duke will lose any interest in her. This was a charming retelling of the story, clearly recognizable, yet much changed to suit the situation. It was a good idea. Darcy makes likeable (mostly) characters and a believable story. Since it is a novella (74 pages) it takes no time at all to read it. It is a simple story, eloquently retold. I recommend it, highly.I received an ARC of The Lady's Love Ruined in exchange for a fair and honest review.

A retelling of the Cinderella story, Lady Emma has had a hard time of it growing up with her step-mother. Regrettably, her father is so under her sway that he does not see what is right under his nose. Fortunately, Emma has one friend in her camp, namely her brother James. When Emma is introduced to the Duke of Stonebridge, albeit reluctantly by her mother, there is an instant and undeniable attraction that sparks between them. Thinking that removing Emma from his orbit will result in “out of sight, out of mind”, Emma's mother does everything she can to take the Duke's focus off Emma and onto her own daughter, even resorting to malicious lies. She doesn't, however, take the Duke's intelligence into account and ultimately he finds a way to discover Emma's whereabouts. This sweet Regency romance brought together the old with a new retelling of the fairytale, making one realise that we are never too old for a happily ever after. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

As usual, Ms. Darcy delivers a quality product. This is a Cinderella variation. The villians are truly cruel and the heros and heroines are pure of heart. I enjoyed getting to know Emma and James. I wish I had gotten to know Thomas anf Aunt Tabitha better. Being a novella makes it difficult to develop all characters. This could have been a full length novel. Thank you, Ms. Darcy!

A very sweet take on a fairy tale.Jealousy, dislike and hatred has spoiled her life till nowThen she met HIM.............And fairy tales do come trueI received an Advance Reader copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review

Thank you for sharing these wonderful romance novels series books. Please keep writing more of these wonderful books. Thank you

I loved this twist on Cinderella story. There were some very sad parts of this story . The redemption for me was the fact the young lady did have at least one person in her life that loved her.

A wicked stepmother tries to keep her stepdaughter from falling in love with a duke. The duke rescues the girl from a sad home life. Very enjoyable.

Emma has grown from infancy in a household that has never shown her any love other than her young half-brother. When her stepmother sets her mind on the Duke of Stonebridge for her daughter Lucy and tries her best to sabotage Emma in order to bring her plans to fruition, young James steps in to try to thwart them. When his mother finds out that he and Emma had gone to the Dukes home for tea, she schemes to have Emma's reputation ruined and banished to her Aunt in Scotland. James rides to the Ducal estate and tells everything to the Duke, including the plot his mother set in motion to destroy Emma's reputation via her cousin to start rumors of him being intimate with Emma. The Duke decides to find the cousin and do whatever he could to stop the rumors if at all possible because he'd suspected that the rest of Emma's family didn't care about her or what the rumors would do to their reputation. Meanwhile, Emma arrives in Scotland at her Aunt's home and dispels her trepidation about being there by being warm and welcoming. Her Aunt admits that she couldn't stand her sister-in-law as to why she never visited while Emma was growing up and Emma tells her why she'd been banished from home for life. Emma's despair of not seeing her brother again and her burgeoning feelings for the Duke leave her feeling desolate when she thinks about him believing the rumors being cast about her.
